&lt;pre&gt;12:14:45,984 WARN [org.jboss.jca.core.connectionmanager.pool.strategy.PoolBySubject] (ServerService Thread Pool -- 70) IJ000604: Throwable while attempting to get a new connection: null: javax.resource.ResourceException: Could not create connection&lt;br /&gt;...&lt;br /&gt;Caused by: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLSyntaxErrorException: Unknown database &amp;#39;&amp;lt;database_name&amp;gt;&amp;#39;&lt;br /&gt;...&lt;/pre&gt;
&lt;p&gt;JBoss&amp;nbsp;ultimately fails to start up.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2&gt;Cause&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Appian data source defined in&amp;nbsp;&lt;strong&gt;appian-ds.xml&lt;/strong&gt; references a schema that does not exist in the database.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h2&gt;Action&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;To correct this issue, perform the following:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ol&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Stop JBoss.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Perform one of the following:
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Rename the schema in the database server to match what is set in&amp;nbsp;&lt;strong&gt;appian-ds.xml&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;For new installations of Appian, create a new database schema with the name set in&amp;nbsp;&lt;strong&gt;appian-ds.xml&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Update&amp;nbsp;&lt;strong&gt;appian-ds.xml&lt;/strong&gt; to point to the correct schema in your database.&lt;/li&gt;
