KB-1572 Bulk Document Upload Failure - MALFORMED Error

Symptoms

When uploading a file via the 'Upload New Document' tab in Appian /suite/designer, the upload fails. The following errors are printed in the application server log:

(ajp-/0.0.0.0:8009-5) ERROR com.appiancorp.km.BulkUploadUtils - MALFORMED

(ajp-/0.0.0.0:8009-5) java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: MALFORMED

Cause

A document in the bulk upload contains special characters in the document name.

Action

Remove any special characters (non-alphanumerical) from the document names.

Affected Versions

This article applies to all versions of Appian.

Issue

When uploading a ZIP file via the Bulk Document upload feature in Runtime Data, the upload fails after a partial assortment of documents are uploaded. Throwing the following errors in the application server log:

Cause

Root cause to the MALFORMED errors are that a document in the bulk upload contains special characters in the document name.

Action

Remove any special characters from the document names.
