Software Capitalization of Appian Development

Good day!  I am throwing this question out there for others to see.  Our accounting department would like to know what others do that are public companies or highly regulated with the costs associated with building an appian app?  Do you capitalize the costs or just expense them?

Thanks

  • Treatment of costs associated with building an Appian app by public companies or highly regulated companies can vary depending on the accounting policies of the company and the applicable accounting standards. Generally, costs that are directly related to the development of software for internal use (such as an Appian app) are capitalized if certain criteria are met. Capitalization means that the costs are recorded as an asset on the balance sheet and are amortized over the useful life of the asset. If you don't have the funds to create your own app, you can earn them on the site by playing online games.
