Process
StartProcess instance crashes if chaining is enabled

Hi,
We have noticed that when we initiate a PM using a!startprocess through the sail form & if the process model has activities with chaining enabled to which are taking some time to complete, the startprocess crashes. Our requirement is that we need merge a few documents using this model which takes a few seconds extra & present the link to that document on the sail form so chaining right till the end was needed. We tried to put a work around to this by forking a parallel dummy flow & disable chaining on that, but it didn't help. I saw a similar issue where they were talking about this being a bug. Please let us know if anyone have noticed this issue.

just to add onto this, it works perfectly fine if i have small documents, pdf's, images(around 5-6 total), but if the content exceeds to around 3-4mb thats when it crashes. so it looks to me that somewhere the time limit is exceeding.

@naveena113: As per looking to logs it seems that some variables which are getting passed to merge process is null and in merge process they have been mark as mandatory to start the process. One more thing as per the process model screen shot I don't see a loop but I see it in the logs. Can you try to investigate that please and let me the results.

so it seems that the document which you are sending to merge are huge in sizes. For that can you check your server logs (jboss / weblogic etc) and if possible please attach.

hey Sumeet, when i remove the chaining after the first node (AND) the whole flow executes fine without any errors regardless of the size of the attachments.

Hey Sumeet,
We made the merge process as part of post submit call to avoid the crash, business will view the pdf prior to the merge & the complete document with the merge will happen after the submit call.
Thanks all for your help.
