Appian BPMN 2.0 Importer/Exporter

Overview

Crystal System’s BPMN 2.0 Importer/Exporter tool was made to offer a solution to the business to transform a process from a BPMN tool into an Appian process and vice versa.

In case of import: Designers will see the new process diagram after importing a small app that contains the transformed XML file.

In case of export: Designers will need to provide the XML of the Appian process model to the app, then he will be able to download the diagram in the BPMN 2.0 format.

The application tool transforms the BPMN 2.0 specific nodes into Appian nodes, creating a clear process.  It comes with a friendly user interface, multi-language support and a lot of BPMN 2.0 nodes supported. The tool recognizes the main language of the of BPMN 2.0 process and keeps the same language of the nodes. The same applies in case of export from Appian to BPMN 2.0.

Key Features & Functionality

  • BPMN 2.0 file validity check
  • XPDL 2.1 file validity check - beta
  • Creation of a valid Appian application which can be downloaded and then imported into Appian without any further processing
  • Tested with Bizagi Modeler, Signavio, bpmn.io, Draw.io, Visual Paradigm, Camunda Modeler, and Yaoqiang BPMN Editor

To use the Appian Importer/Exporter the client will receive access to Appian Crystal Cloud and can upload and transform their processes. The client process will not be stored anywhere on the platform or in any database, unless the process conversion has errors and the client agrees to share the uploaded file for debugging purposes.

  • While integrating with Appian BPM for these Export / Import scenarios with this tool, Is there any indication as to what source systems can lend for potentially exporting from & eventually import into Appian? Are there utilities that needs to be installed to export from the source system that will conform to the required XML format? This is not clear in the above explanation.
