Notes2Appian Migration Utility

Overview

Business units in many organizations are dependent on legacy workflow and task management applications built on the Lotus Notes platform to perform their day to day operations. These applications are not able to keep up with the changing business environment which forces the business teams to build workarounds for these applications to achieve their business needs. The inefficiencies that are caused by legacy applications and manual processes built around them can pose the following challenges:

  1. Lack of a single view: Siloed applications which perform a single function and lack of a single case management view.
  2. Product roadmap and lack of strategy: An old technology stack lacks a roadmap based on new developments pushing clients to move to new technologies.
  3. Email dependency: Heavy use of emails for tracking and resolution activities.
  4. Limited user experience: Legacy interfaces and limitations for end users.
  5. High operational costs and TCO: Managing and enhancing applications is expensive and cumbersome.
  6. Migration Cost: High costs for migrating to another platform due to manual process of migrating to the target state.

Key Features & Functionality

The TCS Lotus Notes to Appian Migration utility brings the combination of the legacy application migration experience from TCS along with the ease of development using the most powerful low code platform, Appian, to enable faster migration to new technology. It consists of two parts:

  • Lotus Notes Assessment Best Practices
    • This classifies the applications into tiers which will help re-platform key critical applications while migrating other non-critical applications with a direct one to one migration to the Appian platform.
    • The tools and best practices from TCS enable automate the assessment and provide report of the current state Lotus Notes Applications.
  • Automated Migration Utility
    • This utility helps migrate the Lotus Notes application components including data structures, documents and data into Appian, thus minimizing the manual effort for the migration.
    • Development teams can use this utility to automate parts of the migration thus reducing the migration effort significantly.
