At Appian World 2025, Appian announced the Agent Studio Beta Program as a way for customers and partners to obtain early hands-on experience with this new offering. This quickly became our most popular beta program to date with 213 individuals across 148 organizations completing the interest form. A record-breaking 22 organizations joined the beta program, representing use cases from financial services, insurance, public sector, life sciences, and more. Combined, these organizations built 257 agents that ran 7,616 times. Most use cases fell into at least one of the following themes:
- Processing unstructured data intake: Interpreting and classifying information from emails, scanned applications, and documents to extract key data, identify missing items, and automatically launch or update workflows.
- Orchestrating intelligent workflows: Enhancing case management by automating decisions or providing next steps to guide a complex process.
- Executing specialized expert tasks: Performing sophisticated analysis that traditionally requires human expertise, such as recommending investigation paths, analyzing contracts for compliance, or automating complex vendor selection.

Key Takeaways and Product Updates:
- Many beta participants mentioned the desire to improve agent performance. Agent Studio is now 30% faster per tool call than the beta release. In addition, agents no longer need a system tool to fetch inputs, and they can set all outputs in a single call. Fewer tool calls means far less waiting around.
- The ability to configure agent guardrails, chat with agents, and easily leverage third-party MCP tools, such as a web search and integration tools, were other common themes that came up during the beta program. These enhancements are on the product roadmap for 2026.
- 100% of participants found Agent Studio “intuitive” or “very intuitive.” Even so, we’ve made further improvements to turn AI agents into first-class design objects. AI agents now come with all the familiar Appian capabilities you’d expect—object-level security, versioning, and easy deployment. Additionally, you can now use the Execute AI Agent smart service to execute your agent in any existing process.
