I never used this in Prod but yes, I have tried this on Dev. Could you please tell me the issue?

We've used this plugin successfully, but I recommend running this during off hours and also doing some tests on smaller data sets to ensure you don't overload the server.

I have used this.
You can set a timer on a start event in a process model to run every X days out of business hours to back up your database.
I have had issues with the plugin complaining that there is not enough heap space in memory to perform the export. So backup only what you must and if it is going to be a large export, then consider alternatives or refine the export tables selection.
