Unable to start Appian engines on Linux - 17.3

I have installed Appian 17.3 and made the changes to the necessary configuration files as mentioned in the Installation guide in both Appian and Jboss.

I did the following and got error messages as mentioned below -

Issue No 1

Before starting the Appian engines, I executed the password.sh file in <APPIAN_HOME>/services/bin folder to set the Admin REST API password, but I am receiving this message

Exception thrown while attempting to retrieve process info for java process with main Class name ServiceManager.

Password successfully changed!

Though it says "Password successfully changed", I see aforementioned error message. Can you help me understand, what the message indicates ?

Issue No 2

I tried to start the Appian engines as I received the message from password.sh that the Password was successfully changed by executing the command

./start.sh -p <password> -s all

but Appian engines failed to start. Here is the snippet of the error message I have received. I have also attached the log file which mentions the entire error.

  • Please do the following:

    1. check java version you are using is above the version mentioned in forum for that appian version. This should be the same in JBOSS_HOME environment variable and in PATH variable.
    2. Re install appian and do the rest of the process for migration again.
    3. Install latest hotfix for that version.
    4. For 17.3 just running password.sh -p password doesn't help sometimes. Update the service.bat file in services/bin/win-service folder. Look for the word %APPIAN_SM_PASSWORD% or $APPIAN_SM_PASSWORD. Replace it with the actual password that you want in that file. There are two or more locations in that file where this needs to be done.

Please try these and let me know if it works.

In the PATH environment variable.....can you copy the entire content to a text file and inspect it to see if any folders exist in there that has a space in between words....for example C:\Program Files\Java\jdk has space in between "Program Files" and for such cases put the entire folder definition in double quotes...for instance in the above example convert it to "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk";. Inspect the entire content of the PATH variable replacing any folder paths that has spaces with double quotes and then save everything. After you save everything open a new command prompt and try to start engines.
  • I have followed what you mentioned , even path looks good.

    But still same error.

I have reinstalled again, but still same error
