I am planning to upgrade my Appian version from v7.2 to v17.3.
When I was reading v17.3 iupdate guide, I was told that I MUST upgrade to 16.2 first;
then when I was reading v16.2 update guide, i was told that I can directly update my version to the latest one with additional steps as it said,
"You may update directly from any version of Appian greater than 6.6.1 to the latest version of Appian. However, updating from a version prior to 7.7 requires additional steps not listed in this guide. You must consult the update guide for prior versions of Appian to find the necessary steps."
In this case, do you know which "the latest one" is referring to, v16.2 or v17.3?
Moreover, do you know what are exact additional step(s) they are referring to? Or if there is any guide I could follow?

In that case, it refers to 16.2. It looks like overall it's a 3-step process: 7.2 to 7.7, 7.7 to 16.2, and then 16.2 to 17.3. Follow the 3 update guides and you should be good.
I would also recommend doing as much regression testing as possible with each upgrade, and definitely read all the release notes between 7.3 and 17.3 to see if you might be using any removed features (especially in plugins.)
