Can other application servers such as IIS be used for a Non Production Installations

I haven't tried to install Appian in another Application server I know in previous versions WebSphere was supported. I am not sure and I don't think anybody tried.
I would like to make a note. IIS is not a a JEE Application server. In Appian it can be used as front Web server as you can see in the architecture.

Please take a look at the System requirements where the only Application servers are JBoss and Weblogic

As a final note if you are worried about the licenses AFAIK Oracle doesn't charge licenses for developing purposes they just charge for production environments. and JBoss its open source but you just pay for the support.
