System Metrics log file (system.csv) not updating

Question

Hi all, 
 I edited the system.csv log file for fixing a corrupted record inside it and not its not updating as it is usually doing (every 5 minutes) 
 Our system is installed on a Linux server and I used vim editor for editing the log file. 
 Any idea on why the log file has stopped from being updated?

The file descriptor symbolic link was broken because i edited the system.csv file while it was running. The file was keeping updating on the memory. 
After an application server restart, the file started updating normally.
