We are trying to setup LDAP authentication from from our Appian cloud instance we do have a VPN connection between Appian and our On premise DB. However our infosec wont allow that direct connection to happen. Has anyone come across such scenario ? if yes how what was the resolution ? Used Middleware or some bridge to make the authentication. ?

I would suggest using SAML instead. SAML is typically on top of an LDAP or Active Directory deployment anyway.

Probably your VPN is configured so that only database traffic is allowed. Reach out to your network administrator to check VPN configuration, firewall rules, etc.
