If you have premier support you can always use the "Enhanced Data Pipeline for Appian Cloud": please refer to the link belo which mentions "This service allows customers to use a MySQL-compatible database client (e.g. MySQL Workbench) and analyze data in a more familiar way"

Appian Premier Support will create a user with read-only permissions in your business data source.
Well having the tunnel and connection is one thing.
Try to open a case to ask more permission and they will tell you if it is possible.
Let me ask you something here, What I don’t totally get is why you are trying to do that? Are you facing a particular issue doing it they the phpmyadmin?
the existing interface on IE is not easy for creating VW and populating values, creating stored proc. it would be easy to work on IDE which would have more options and makes it easy to code.
Well you can always create the tables in a local database and when ready create them on the cloud.
Would it help? That even gives you an extra layer of testing before actually messing with dev environment.
