How do I delete all the files that were imported as part of an application. When I try deleting the application it gives an indicator that only the app would be deleted and the files would prevail. How do I get rid of the whole set?...

Ok, got it. Used the delete community plugin to do this.

Deleting the Application Package doesn't mean that all the contents of that package will be deleted from that environment. If you want to delete the documents that are all imported, then you can go for below smart services:
          forum.appian.com/.../Delete_Document_Smart_Service
          forum.appian.com/.../Delete_Folder_Smart_Service
          forum.appian.com/.../Delete_KC_Smart_Service
          forum.appian.com/.../Delete_Community_Smart_Service
