Administrator User

Certified Lead Developer

Hello there,

I have a question about the "Administrator" user. As far as I know it is a super user that is not logged in the Appian logs and for this reason the user does not have access to the admin console.

But, can the user access everything else? It is not listed in the Users section. How can I know what is the password of this user?

Also another question, comes the Adminsitrator user with every Appian installation out of the box?

Many thanks!

  • Thanks Carlos, I wonder now if the user "Administrator" exists in the client as it is not listed in the Users section. We dont have a passwords.properties file.

I have read that in old versions the Administrator user is created if there are no other Admin users in the system, so I dont know if the user "Administrator" exists. Can I check it somehow? Our customer needs a list of all super users.

  • It's possible that your instance was originally installed as 19.4 or earlier, in which case a different admin username could've been chosen. Unfortunately, Appian would read and immediately delete the passwords.properties file.

Perhaps open a case with Appian Support to see if there's a way to find out what that first admin user was?

  • I am assuming now that a few years ago, when the first installation of Appian on premise happened this user was created and the password was updated. Now I believe the user Administrator still exists but nobody knows the password.

    I have two questions:

    - Is it possible may be through the support team to reset the password (I will check this through a support ticket as well)

    - What is the purpose of the user Administrator if it cant do anything on the admin console and also whatever it does is not logged anywhere, being that very bad for tracking and security purposes?
