Hi,
We are using SAML to asign users to groups upon login, using 2 different types of rules:
- Group based - matching SAML groups to Appian Groups (for example - Director)
- Rule based - matching user data (taken from SAML properties) to Appian Groups (for example - Office)
We need to be able to create sub-groups using info from Groups + User data (to create a group for - Office Director). We need these groups to be able to assign tasks.
We've tried multiple things but haven't ben able to find a solution to execute this online, and therefore have gone to a batch solution. Is there a way to:
- create a group from an interesection of 2 groups?
- create a group using group + user attribute data?
Thanks

you could maybe use the 10 custom fields that Appian users have to save the names of the groups he/she is in, and then in the membership rule when you want to add certain people you can check these custom fields to see which groups a certain user is in, and based on that you can add or remove them from groups
Hi Ahmad,
Thanks for your reply.
We have plenty of groups (more than 3) and have tried to store all the groups in one user field, but it's not working, it only stores 1 group.
have you tried to save a group in each one of the fields?
also: exactly how many groups do you have? more than 10?
We are using 4 fields to store user info, and we might have more than 6 groups. In any case -> do you know how we could capture group X on the SAML config? We've tried to use a rule and it crashes
I am afraid I can't help you with this, I am sorry.
Thanks, hope we find a soluion
