In our self-managed environments, we are not receiving Process error alerts. Do we need to enable/specify any properties at custom.properties at APPIAN_HOME/conf directory?
if so please let us what are the specific properties need to configure?

Do you receive any other email from that environment?
Sorry for the late reply. We are able to receive the mail which were sent through sent E-Mail smart service from process model. only alerts are not receiving when process failed.
We have a similar situation. Have you found the solution?
Not receiving or not sending? I mean, do you see an error message about Appian not able to send that emails?
I would probably open a ticket with Appian for this sort of thing.
Are you using a custom sender when you're sending through a send e-mail process node?
Could be that you're only allowed to send as that custom sender on your SMTP server but the appian-alerts@<hostname> is not allowed?
Sorry for the late reply. We are now receiving the process failure alerts by configuring the following two properties in custom.properties file
conf.suite.MAIL_SCHEME=http
conf.suite.MAIL_SERVER_AND_PORT=<Appian Instance Server Name>:8080
