We had some processes get out of hand and spawn hundreds of unnecessary sub-processes which subsequently bloated a few of our execution engines to a very a large size. Now, even though the processes have been killed, the engines remain rather large and are eating up all of the RAM on the server. What can I do to return the engines back down to a reasonable size?...

Since this memory has been already pre-allocated by the OS you will have to double check you have deleted a considerable amount of processes and perform a full restart of the server stopping Appian gracefully through stop-suite
