You mean deprecated within your company, right? That module is still supported on Apache 2.4.

The only available documentation for Appian and Apache is for mod_jk. You can review the Apache documentation and "translate"/"map" the mod_jk settings into the mod_proxy_ajp but you will have to thoroughly test this since Appian is certified to work with mod_jk but I haven't seen any plans to support mod_proxy_ajp

and by support I don't mean it won't work, I mean that is a module that hasn't been used when designing the documentation of Apache with Appian.

An enhancement request has been created for official support for Apache 2.4 with mod_proxy_ajp under the reference number AN-52549
