I just did a clean install of 7.6 using the configuration manager, and I can't access the old portal interface, even through a direct link. Did I miss a property in custom.properties, or does it look like there is a deeper error that I need to investigate?

What happens if you login via "your_host_and_port/suite/apps"?

There probably is a deeper error since the direct link is no longer working. When you get that problem figured out there is a new property you can enable to see portal interface link in Desinger. Portal Interface Link in Designer is hidden by default as of Appian 7.4+
