There are "System Groups"   in Appian and General groups(All Users, Administrators )  which we create for security purpose .  Just wanted to understand on which scenario we can go for each of them . Is there any real time difference .

    Hi

Groups are used to organize users and facilitate security within both Appian Designer and individual applications.

There are two type of groups in Appian

    1. System Groups

    2. Custom Groups

System Groups are the groups provided by Appian Product. Appian environment automatically includes a set of system groups, which you can use to administer access to various components in the environment.

As a best practice, don't use system groups to secure individual applications or design objects in applications.

    Examples of System Groups:

    Designers,

    Health Check Viewers,

    Process Model Creators,

    Service Accounts,

    Database Editors,

    Database Viewers,

    Tempo Users,

    Database Administrators,

    Quick App Creators

Custom Groups are the groups which we create for our applications to provide security for our application. Appian can automatically generate certain groups and folders if you select the Generate groups and folders to secure and organize objects option during application creation. These are also custom groups. Since they are created by automatically and sets the generated groups as the security for the application, Appian call them as  default security groups.

    Examples of Custom groups:

If you create Customer Onboarding Application and if you select the Generate groups and folders to secure and organize objects option during application creation, Appian will create COA Users and COA Administrators

If you have requirement for additional groups like reviewers and approver during onboarding you can create groups like COA Reviewers and COA Approvers

NOTE: Custom Groups (Groups you create) and system groups can contain both individual users and other groups. You can assign group membership manually or dynamically based on membership rules.
