Is it possible to export an application from an earlier version of Appian into a newer version of Appian? What about from newer to older? (assuming no special features from the new version were included in the application)...

Moving from new to old releases wouldn't be supported and is typically prevented by the product. The exception is hotfixes/patches which typically don't affect this.

So are you saying that exporting an application from an older version of Appian (say, 7.5) into a newer version (say, 7.7) wouldn't be a problem?

Yes, older to newer should be fine.
