Hi, we are looking at a installing Appian along the lines of hardware engine failover. We are going to be engaging professional services to assist, but before we do so we are investigating jBoss licensing considerations.

Are we right in thinking that jBoss will be required on each server, including the Appian servers ... not just the front end application servers?

If so, could anyone advise or share experiences on how they have approached jBoss licensing? it is on a per-core basis and want to make sure we have provisioned enough for each server.

Thanks, David.

Hi David, in my experience JBoss EAP is only required on the application servers. Appian would also be installed on the app servers to provide various contents to JBoss. If you're running a VM environment you may find you have to license per core on the underlying hosts and not just the virtual servers which can inflate the costs depending on your hardware but this pricing model may have changed as per core becomes the norm for enterprise licensing
