We currently have a user set up with an incorrect username. What is the easiest way to amend this please?

As long as the username is not the same set of characters but different case. For example, if my user is Eduardo.fuentes I can't deactivate it and create eduardo.fuentes because since 7.4 Eduardo.fuentes = eduardo.fuentes only for the validation of available usernames.

In that case you will have to use the Rename Users plug-in to rename Eduardo.fuentes to eduardo.fuentes_tmp then eduardo.fuentes_tmp to eduardo.fuentes.
