Has anyone encountered this? Running Appian 7.8
Noticed that standard Appian password reset emails weren't being sent out. Checked server logs and emails were failing due to:
javax.ejb.EJBException:
com.appiancorp.process.engine.EmailBodyException: Email body failed to render
Caused by: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed:
sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target
Full stack trace from server log attached. I'm not aware of anything that changed on the Appian server or on the network related. The configured email server is a server local on my network running sendmail.

If this was working fine was because the system administrator might have imported the self signed certificate into the the trusted store of the JDK and it was overridden by an upgrade of the JDK. It's better to fix this the way the user suggested, setting MAIL_SCHEME and MAIL_SERVER_AND_PORT
