Has anyone had luck customizing their favicon for Portal & IE11? Since we were pushed to IE11 we noticed the favicon reverted to the red A in portal only - Tempo interfaces remain correct for IE11. IE9 and Chrome still show the correct customized favicon for Portal as well, but everyone is now on IE11 and Chrome is not supported in Portal. Our custom favicon was added way back when under /suite.ear/web.war/portal/img per Appian 6 documentation, and currently favicon branding is not supported for Portal. We have changed the .ico file just about everywhere we can find it, but no luck. There is still 1 location in the file structure where the red A is found, appian/_admin/accdocs1/0/, but I'm doubtful changing there will do the trick. Any suggestions? We are on Appian 7.10.

  • Hey Chris, just to clarify, the reason it shows up in Chrome and IE9 is that those browsers still have the favicon cached from when you configured it a while back. So the reverse could be true for IE11; that is, IE11 could be using a cached version of the default Appian favicon. Although changing the favicon for Portal is not supported, if you have taken steps that you believe will accomplish this, then you'll likely still need to refresh your browser's favicon cache to see the effect. For some browsers, this may be different than simply clearing your browser cache. Different browsers handle favicons differently and some browsers, including IE, have changed the way that they handle favicons over time.

Again, because the changes you have described are not supported, I do not know whether they would work in the way you intend. It is, however, worth keeping in mind that the browser itself may play a role in what you are seeing.
