I am running 7.10 on a Linux VM and am having trouble starting the search server

I am running 7.10 on a Linux VM and am having trouble starting the search server. I brought down the VM to add more memory and shut down services in the following order 1. Jboss 2.Search-Server 3. Appian Engines. When I rebotted the VM and started Appian (came up ok) I know get the message "Unable to start Appian Search Server". Do i need to run the configure script again ? I did not make any changes to SS_JAVA_OPTS or allocate any more memory to Appian just the VM itself.
I checked all the info at
forum.appian.com/.../Search_Server.html
and the search-server.log and search_server_cluster.csv but I could not find any errors and everything seems to have shut down properly.
