Cannot connect to SQL DBs after patching

Appian 7.9
We patched the Appian windows server and tried unsuccessfully to restart the application afterwards. We were not able to make the SQL connections. I recompiled the application and it's now working. This was for the QA system and we are scheduled to patch the Prod server on the weekend - we don't want this to happen then.
I have attached the list of patched installed and the application-server.log file. The error can be seen yesterday and OK today.

Hello, I noticed you also have a support case for this issue as well? To help us find the cause, we request you supply the server.log, from your App Server (either Jboss or WebLogic) Thanks in advance!
