Appian Developer - Application Building Blocks - Interfaces 101: Build Forms and Other Interfaces - Build an Application: Step 9

PDF

Currently engaging in the Appian Developer training course. In the Appian Step-by-Step #9 guide I am running into issues with the instructions:

Section:  Add Dropdown Components

I've closely followed the syntax of these instructions, here is a small snippet of them:

In the Local Variables pane, click New Local Variable.

Configure fields for the first local variable

name: Category

Value: rule!AA_QR_REF_getVehicleCategory

As soon as I type that out the expression editor defaults () at the end. After I exit, the Edit tab of the Design Mode interface becomes grayed out and a red colored error window appears with the following information:

"Could not display interface. Please check definition and inputs.
Interface Definition: Expression evaluation error: Rule and function references cannot be stored in local variables. local!category contains one or more rule or function references.

__

Was there something I missed in a prior exercise that would case this or am I accessing the wrong Local Variables in the wrong place?
