How do I generate objects using Composer in Appian Community Edition?

Community Edition is fairly limited in various ways compared to a normal cloud instance (for example), though in the case that this is some sort of technical error, you should email "communityedition@appian.com" to ask them whether something's wrong or whether it's expected behavior.
