We are currently on 16.2, where when there are 2 inputs to a node, we use a empty script task to merge to inputs and use the output of the "Merge Script Task" to next node.
We got lots of PM's where there is a empty script task just to merge more than 1 inputs coming in.
Is that the same case with versions 17.3 /17.4 ?

This is the same case in the newer versions also. Two input flows may lead to ambiguity in the process and the process flow may be struck. It is still recommended to use a script task to merge the in comming flows.
