My PDF doc contains textual report as well as pictures

Hi All,
I am using convertdocumenttobase64() for saving a pdf document to relational db. But for large size docs, the result variable remains blank. However, I could see the value going from Designer-->Processes-->Process instance-->Process details-->Variables.
With further investigation, I could conclude that for result value with less than 1.5Million Characters, result value is visible in PV. Whereas, for values above this, PV remains blank.
My PDF doc contains textual report as well as pictures.
Does any one know how to resolve this?
Any kind of input is appreciated.

Does this error also occur with a pdf that does not contain any images? The plugin readme.txt suggests that "The output of this expression can get very, very large (since it's the size of your file.)
Therefore it should be passed directly into another service (e.g. web service) rather than stored as a text PV. "
