Experience with test driven development with Appian?

I was thinking about automating functional tests, but I guess that's something that's more suited to applications that are coded from scratch (e.g. java, ruby). It makes sense that I can't do that in appian (without creating a separate app to run the tests) since I'm not writing code from scratch. I can still use QTP to automate tests, and the fact that I can completely avoid extensive testing on every possible device is a huge savings.
