is it possible to change the position of an action button from left to the upper right corner (as it seems to be the default when pre-viewing a record type).

No. Record list actions cannot be relocated. But you can add your own buttons anywhere using the recordActionField.

(So, basically, the auto generated "record list" does something different than the record list available within the appian interface designer option)
I did a small test and I see that difference between a gridField put into an interface and a record used as a page in a site. But there is no option in the gridField to change that.
yes, with record action field we can relocate it..rather than that we cannot relocate that.. i tested it
Interesting, so there seems to be 3 different ways how a record action is placed within a list when using a record type as source.
