I would like to know if it is possible to start a process from a record dashboar

I would like to know if it is possible to start a process from a record dashboard. I would like to have some kind of UI element like button or link or anything like this, upon clicking of which, some action should be triggered. I know there is "Related Actions" but I want it to be on the dashboard itself.
My business requirement is this: I have entity backed record dashboard, I need to compare two date columns and if they are different, I need to display some alert on dashboard and provide a handle to the user to "approve" this difference. Upon user's approval [or click], I need to change the database table to make two date columns same. ...
