The new Appian Community launches August 3, followed by Appian Academy on August 7. During the migration, Appian Community Edition, Appian Academy, Documentation, Certifications, Instructor-led Customer Training, Partner Sales Training & Accreditation, and Forum (for Appian Partners and Customers only) will remain available.
Summary: The Generate Sample Data feature for a Record Type fails. The issue also reproduces with a newly created, minimal Record Type.

Click REFRESH ALL DATA in the Additional Configuration panel and try again

This looks like an environment level issue. Did you find anything in system logs? If not, better to raise an Appian Support ticket.
