XML as Input document and XML as Output Document

Thanks carlos for the response but when I am trying to for the simple example which is given in functions doc.

I am trying like

torecord(ri!xmldata,ri!data). I create a CDT with personName and I am passing that as type to ri!data so

ri!xmldata is a Text
ri!data is of type PersonName

to the text field I am passing

<PersonName xmlns="www.bpmbasics.com/Person">
<First>Edward</First>
<Last>Denton</Last>
</PersonName>

when I tried executing it I am getting this error

Expression evaluation error at function 'torecord': Error evaluating function 'torecord' : Cannot convert the XML byte[] [B@1b5c7e37 to an internal value of type PersonName (id=906).

Can you please help me what is to be done.

Thanks sagar, when I tried that in expression rule the values are coming like

PersonName
First: Null(Text),
Last:Null(Text)

Is there something I am missing,

I was able to do this but when I am having a value in the date format I tried it like this,

<startdate>20172006</startdate>

this is my tag and in this, I created a field like startdate as date field.

But when I am saving that into a variable it is getting date out of range or something or (infinite)symbol is appearing.

Can some one say me how to solve the type issues.

If you know it's always going to be in this format, you can map startdate to a text field in the CDT. Then you can parse out its parts and build the date out of them.
