Scenario: Initially I had a user set up with username, as example, "AB1234". Since it's case-sensitive we deactivated that user and changed it to "ab1234". Now when I log in as "ab1234", the following error appears in the log:
com.appiancorp.suiteapi.content.exceptions.InsufficientNameUniquenessException: Name is insufficiently unique
Any suggestion on how to resolve this since we cannot delete the original user? Having issues uploading a profile picture for the 2nd user and also when logged into Tempo I can see that there are tasks assigned to my user because of the "(2)" however nothing appears when I click on the "Tasks (2)" link....

We want to preserve the user that uses lower case.

Would it be enough to just delete the profile picture from the system knowledge center? The one that uses upper case?

Yes, given you just want the lower case one, you can do this and deactivate the upper case one.

Well, since Jordan has deleted the profile picture from the system knowledge center for the upper case user name, I have logged in with my lower case user name. I can still see the tasks in tempo, however still having issues uploading my profile picture.

Interestingly enough, the picture is getting uploaded (it's showing up in the system KC after I deleted it out of there and the hard drive itself), Appian is just not displaying it. I am getting the following errors (slightly different from before):
ERROR com.appiancorp.ag.util.UserPhotos - Could not generate thumbnails for user 'abc1234'.
com.appiancorp.suiteapi.content.exceptions.InvalidContentException: Invalid Content ID

The way I solved the remaining erro in my local environment when reproducing the behavior to assist you are:
1. Delete the thumbnails from Default Community > System Knowledge Center > User Pictures > User Thumbnails
ABC1234_30.jpg
ABC1234_45.jpg
ABC1234_60.jpg
ABC1234_90.jpg
abc1234_30.jpg
abc1234_45.jpg
abc1234_60.jpg
abc1234_90.jpg
2. Double check the following files were also gone from Default Community > System Knowledge Center > User Pictures
ABC1234.jpg
abc1234.jpg
3. Logged in as abc1234 at /suite/apps to upload a new profile picture
4. Made sure the new profile picture shows up on /suite/apps "My Profile" (but still fails on Tempo)
5. Restart JBoss
6. Login to Tempo

Eduardo - I went into designer and deleted all User Thumbnails and User Pictures that were associated to both abc1234 and ABC1234. But when I get to step 3 and upload a new profile pic for abc1234 I continue to get the pop-up error of "The file you are trying to upload is either too large or not an image."
Since this is only DEV and I really don't need a picture in that environment I'm not sure we should spend many more resources trying to resolve this problem. We were able to get the tempo issue resolved and I can now see my task.

If you still want to fix this, let's change the order of the steps a little bit:
1. Double check all this pictures have been deleted
2. Restart JBoss
3. Upload your picture
