Appian 17.2 - Social Tasks

Hello all.

Is it possible to prevent users from creating social tasks? Is there a way to disable this feature of Tempo?

  • Yes! I believe that there is no way of disabling this feature nor applying security settings to it based on the documentation. And to be honest, I don't think there should be as it is part of the collaboration philosophy that Appian is implementing.

I just happen to have a client that asking for that because we have recently upgraded a Lab environment to Appian 17.2 and this feature has been placed in the Tasks interface of Tempo where as in Appian 7.6, this feature was only located on the News interface of Tempo.

Seems like it may be best if you can convey to the client there is no need to remove the feature, and teach them how they can gain business value from it.

Aside from that, you could refactor how the users interact with Appian? You could create a task report that's included in a report. User training would be needed to re-direct folks to Reports to see their task list. Perhaps even use Sites to limit which tabs they see, so it's only your task report and appropriate records, but perhaps you are using Tempo News, so you wouldn't want to move to sites in that case.
