Deletion of application which contains web api doesn't delete the web api's inside it

Question

Scenario - We had to deploy an application which contains web api to the higher environment . The older version of the application was still present in the higher environment so what we did is deleted that application from the higher evnt before we deployed the updated version of the application. However while importing the patch , when we were inspecting the patch prior to importing ,it didn't give any error or warning but after importing in import logs it started giving error.Saying the web api were not imported due to some reason and duplicate error. 
 Does this mean Web-Api's are not application specific as we don't save them into any folder inside the application and we need to delete the web api before we actually deploy it from the lower environment ? 
 
 Please suggest .

No Object is directly Associate with Application. You can add 1 object in multiple Application as well even if they are saved into any Folder.

Any object in Appian can be a part of an Application and you can simply say that the object is in context of the application. 
Conceptually applications are there to group object which are related to one Business Solution not to store objects. 
 
But deletion of an application will not delete any objects inside them. To delete a web api you need to delete the Web API only

Deleting of any application will not delete objects. 
 
It will give you message like "Delete Application 
WARNING: You are about to permanently delete the selected application from the system! (Items associated with the application will not be deleted).". 
 
You have to delete your Web Api from Existing System First.
