Hey all, just checking to see if anyone has an answer for this new issue I've suddenly noticed-
Our dev installation rolled out 7.3 overnight, and now I can't open an application in /designer/apps. The new window pops up, stays blank for a moment, then an error message pops up saying "An error was encountered while processing your request. Please try again." Clicking OK, the new window for the application stays up and stays blank until closed. This persists despite logging out/in, closing IE completely, or restarting the whole computer. It affects me (running IE9) and one of my teammates (running IE10).
Our UAT install is still on the previous appian version; from there, applications still open as normal for both of us.
Thanks for any help!...

Can you clear your browser cache using IE Developer tools? For reference, take a look at

You might also want to try this by starting IE without add-ons. To do that, please navigate to Start -> Run. In the Run window type "iexplore -extoff'. Hope that helps.

That works for me, as a temp work-around. Ironically, it does not work for my other teammate who's affected by this.

Another solution is:
- Tools
- Internet Options
- Advanced
- Reset Advanced settings

Thanks eduardo, we actually tried the "reset advanced settings" first - but it had no immediate effect.

Actually after further investigation it turns out that the trick is to clear the cookies in the browser which means that probably the people who still have the problem is because they are only deleting “Temporary Internet files and website files” instead of the cookies.
Make sure they delete the cookies too. Here's an example:

Thanks, just tried that as well, but unfortunately the error remains exactly the same.

actually - i just tried it one more time (exactly the same), but closed IE and waited a full 2 minutes for it to clear out of system memory before re-launching (the first time i did close it but re-opened it rather quickly); and it seems to work now. Phew! thanks =)

We had exactly the same problem on upgrade which was eventually resolved via a support call. The problem arises when you have a favourites link set on your browser.
To clear the problem navigate to Tools / Internet options / general / Browsing history / delete
Uncheck the 'Preserve Favourites website data'
Check the remaining options and hit the Delete button.
Check / Uncheck the options again as desired.

The first hotfix package for 7.3 will include a product fix for this (AN-51567). In the mean time, the one-time work-around mentioned above is necessary in certain situations to access the application builder.
