We have upgraded to v7.2 on our stage server and are in the process of exporting

We have upgraded to v7.2 on our stage server and are in the process of exporting our process models and applications over to stage (from dev). Then we plan to upgrade dev to v7.2. Do we have to export all pm's from DEV? For example: we have numerious pm's that are for documenting the process flow for a department and are not published or ever intend to be published. We are under the assumption that dev will be wiped clean and any pm's not exported to stage will be lost. ...

6.6.0. Also we need these unpublished pm's in the future, as they are good visual training tool.

What gives you the impression that dev would be wiped clean?
If you follow the steps for migrating Appian engines, data, and configurations in the migration guide your current data will migrate with the environment. Exporting and importing applications should not be needed to retain process models during a migration.
