Can you provide a little explanation for what you mean by "save users in a column"?
I usually just make a text column in the table called "modifiedBy", which stores the user's text-based username.
Yeah you can't make a "user" type for a column, but in most places things automatically cast from text to user. For example, you can have a user picker that saves a selected user directly to a text field.
We take an approach similar to Mike, except with a varchar() field to house our employee IDs (user profile custom field 1 in our case) This way when the username changes (marriage, company integration, etc), we can still reference the employee by their ID, which does not change.
To save additional information in database like username, datetime etc who have modified your record through action or related action you can capture those details from process model process properties and save those details.
