Which version for BPMN Appian use?

The graphical notation of Appian is complaint with BPMN 2.0 but the xml that Appian uses internally does not follow BPMN 2.0 completely. There are also some nodes defined by BPMN 2.0 that are not available in Appian. You can see the full BPMN 2.0 description here
In another discussion Malcolm Ross, deputy CTO from Appian, explain it. It is not possible to import/export BPMN 2.0 models from other BPMN 2.0 platforms directly into / from Appian.
jesusa310 Can I import any workflow from Visio to Appian

It is not possible without adjustments. In the post that I mentioned on my previous comment Malcolm Ross explains the difficulties: "To create an export from another XML format to Appian, you will need to create an XML transformation (XSLT) to migrate the objects. Appian performed this once with Mega, allowing processes from Mega to be imported to Appian and vice versa using this technique. Appian has not provided a XPDL or other format importer/exporter due to a general lack of demand."
I also tested some imports / exports between different BPM platforms and there were problems everywhere. The graphical representation of the BPMN notation might be standard but it seems that most of the vendors include modifications internally.
From my perspective it does not really help to do that. The way you design individual process models is very different and an imported process cannot be executed without lots of modifications. I think it is easier to keep the Visio diagrams for talking to business and rebuild the models in Appian.
I absolutely agree with Stefan. Developing a xml tool that adapt bpm diagrams done with visio for Appian will cost a lot of time and will never be executable as Appian adds many proprietary features. Better to use the Visio diagrams for documentation and build the appian processes from scratch.
