When an Admin changes the groups assigned to a user, would the user need to be out of the system? Are any notices sent to the user or admin when this scenario arises., ie User in Appian but Admin wants to changes associated groups?...

Group membership is refreshed automatically right away after the user is added or removed to a group. There's no notification sent to the user when this is done using the People Tab. If you want to notify the users and keep track you should build a process model that adds/removes users, notifies them using the Send Email node and records the action (e.g. in the Database with a Write to DS)

Eduardo - thanks for the info ... but if a user is in the system working and a group is removed, would they be kicked out of the system or allowed to finish their task as part of the group they were just removed from?

Someone from Appian can correct me if I'm wrong but:
1) A user will not be kicked out of the system if a group is deleted that they were a member of.
2) Once a user accepts a task, they become the task owner. It doesn't matter if they are removed from the group that it was originally assigned to, they still have the accepted task.
If you need the ability to kill a task, you should look into exception triggers.

A system administrator could also cancel the task.

Since the group membership is applied right away the user will not be kicked out of the system but the additional privileges will get lost. As Jason says this doesn't impact accepted tasks since the user is now the owner but it will impact any other areas were the security role map no longer includes him as part of his removal from the group.
