there is requirement for a form to be moved to the next step(automatically submits) after a fixed time how could we implement this any ideas?

A form as displayed in the browser cannot be auto submitted.
Please elaborate your use case. Maybe there is a different way to fulfil that requirement.
it is an application we assign a timer fpr that if the user did not finish it on time the task should be submitted automatically
OK. Weird use case, but you can implement that using a exception defined in the user input task in the process model. It does not submit the form, but skip the task which allows you to implement a default behavior.

yes untill the details the user entered to be saved
Why don't you implement save & exit button in your form because submitting the form automatically not possible. Though you can configure exception as Stefan said but it will not submit the form and data will not be saved.
