I see one more part of the documentation on checkpointing which says --> " When a checkpoint completes, the transaction log is applied to the database and the transaction log is cleared".

"applied to the database" ---> Which database is this? Is this a RDBMS? Or do you mean it is applied to the disk as a .kdb file?...
