Is there a function available to retrieve only direct members from a group.
The a!groupMembers function returns both direct and rule based members when "direct=true" is passed, but I am looking for a way to specifically obtain just direct members.

For me, it works perfectly fine. I think you should check your group structure again.
Yes, passing direct=true, returns both 'direct' + 'rule' based users & my requirement is to get 'direct' members excluding rule based membership.
I don't believe there's any functionality that can make that distinction. For most use cases there's no difference between a "direct" and "rule-based' group member, as both of these imply that the membership is direct versus being inherited from a member sub-group.
