Sometimes I see in the documentation or somewhere else that an expression or a component is deprecated, meaning that it will be removed in the future... does this mean that when I have an expression in older version and later when I migrate to the latest version my specific expression or component won't be functioning? isn't it keeping us away from new versions?...

deprecated means that you should not use that feature in new designs and sometime in the future that feature will be removed from the product. Usually you will want to update the deprecated items when you are doing upgrades or maintenance on where the deprecated feature is being used.
